Chief Executive Officer, Urban Pathways

Officer Position: Vice Chair

Mr. Shack joined Urban Pathways, a not-for-profit, social service and supportive housing organization serving homeless adults in the New York Metropolitan Area, in January 2005 as Executive Director.

Mr. Shack was a founding member and past president of Homeless Services United, a coalition of agencies serving homeless New Yorkers. Under Mr. Shack’s leadership, Urban Pathways developed over 600 units of affordable and supportive housing which includes the construction of eight building located in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx.

Prior to joining Urban Pathways, Mr. Shack spent 14 years at HELP USA. His last position at HELP was Senior Vice President of Client Services and Public Policy. Urban Pathways has active partnerships with several developers including Genesis Companies, SoBro, The Arker Companies and Urban Pathways is currently working on establishing a partnership with Extell.

Mr. Shack holds an MSW and BA in psychology from Rutgers University. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the Board of the Human Services Council of New York, Vice-Chair of the Board of the Supportive Housing Network of New York, member of the Board of the Homeless Services United and a member of the Board of the NASW-New York Chapter.  In addition he is a Lecturer, teaching a homeless policy and a field supervision course at the Columbia University School of Social Work.
